Grounds and Sounds welcomes Quarter Horse, a unique new Long Island band, to the stage on May 12, at 8:00 p.m. If you force the six members of the band to describe their sound, they’ll eventually say they are an Americana band, with folk, rock, jazz and alternative influences. But they’d rather just make their own sound. However you classify them, it’s clear they are outstanding musicians and vocalists who have come into their own. Their recently released second album Quarter Horse displays their full musical prowess on acoustic and electric guitar, keyboards, mandolin, upright bass and other instruments. The band’s signature three-part harmonies are patterned after Crosby, Stills & Nash. They’re also famous for their collaborative lyric-writing, tandem lead guitars and improvisational work. This is their second time bringing their unique sound to Grounds and Sounds. Grounds and Sounds regulars who saw the first show are still raving about it.
