“…a dynamic musical duo who will take you on a journey through love and laughter. “
South Shore singer-songwriter James O’Malley is earning national recognition following the release of his fifth solo studio album, Ivyland, which recently ranked among the most-played albums on folk radio nationwide. We are pleased to welcome him to Grounds & Sounds in our sanctuary on Apr. 10.

The 12-song collection charted at No. 33 on Folk Alliance International’s January rankings, and, has since, moved up to No. 20, based on radio playlists submitted to FOLKDJ-L, an electronic forum used by folk radio DJs across the country. The placement marks a significant milestone for O’Malley, whose thoughtful songwriting and intricate fingerstyle guitar work have long resonated with audiences throughout the New York metro area.

O’Malley has been impressing New York metro area audiences for years with his mellifluous tenor voice and gentle yet intricate finger-style guitar playing that draws listeners into his narratives. A consummate songwriter, he pens relatable songs that combine warm and memorable melodies with vivid lyrical imagery, and cover a range of emotions — from humorous to introspective — as they explore family, relations, human nature, and the contemplation of life’s choices.

When not performing solo, O’Malley can often be seen with Candice Baranello, a founding member of Mountain Maidens, a traditional folk trio. Together, they perform as “Take 2,” a dynamic musical duo who will take you on a journey through love and laughter. There will be sing-a-longs, old favorites, and originals, bringing their love and joy to you in song.

Candice is known for her powerful, expressive voice. She plays multiple instruments including the ukulele, banjo, guitar, and dulcimer.

After great demand, Candice and James have just begun to record their first full length album. It will feature their unique original songs that have become staples of their live performances. They were invited to The Bitter End in NYC for John Platt’s “On Your Radar” series. Their beautiful song, “The Bridge To Portree” was played on Celtic Music Radio in Scotland. The duo has also been featured on “Wes Houston Presents…” TV show.

The duo is known for their beautiful harmonies and heartfelt performances, often incorporating both original tunes and covers into their sets. They perform at various venues, including libraries, music halls, and local restaurants.

The show begins with an Open Mic at 7:30 p.m! (signup at 7:00); the main act goes on at about 8:15.

We’ll have coffee and snacks for sale.  Remember, bring your own wine.  There is a small corking fee.
